New Pine Tree Plates
Reserve Your Plate Number Now
Maine is replacing its general issue chickadee plate in 2025. In accordance with the State, beginning May 1, 2025, the Town of Parsonsfield will no longer issue license plates with the chickadee design. Anyone with the chickadee plate will be required to obtain new plates when they renew their registration or obtain a new registration on or after May 1, 2025. Due to State law, the new plates will not be issued before May 1, 2025. If you would like to keep your current plate number, you must reserve your number.
Replacing Your Chickadee Plate
After May 1, 2025, Parsonsfield will issue a new plate when registrants with a chickadee plate renew their registrations. See below for options when choosing a new plate. New pine tree plates will not be issued prior to May 1, 2025.
For new registrations and renewals in the Passenger Class (PC) class code, registrants can choose:
a pine tree plate (existing PC class code) for no additional costs or;
a “no tree plate” (new NT class code) for no additional costs or;
one of the current specialty plates (normal fees apply).
Reserving Your Current Plate Number
If you choose to reserve your current license plate number or vanity plate, there is a one-time, non-refundable $25.00 fee. Non-chickadee plates will not have the option to reserve.
Class codes that can be reserved are: Antique Auto (AQ), Combination (CM), Commercial (CO), Farm (FM), Motor Home (MH), Passenger Class (PC), Special Equipment (SE), Commercial Tractor (TT).
Tractor plates (TR) may only be reserved through the manual application process (MV-62).
A license plate number can be reserved in four different ways.
- Online through a standalone reservation portal: www.maine.gov/online/reservemyplate
- Through Rapid Renewal. (You will be prompted to reserve your plate if you wis)
- At a local BMV branch.
- Mailing in a Reserve Plate Application (MV-62) to the BMV Administrative Office. All Plate Reservation Applications should be mailed to 29 State House Station, Augusta, ME 04333 with "Attention Registrations."
Important Reminders About Reserving Plates
Reserving your plate number guarantees you will receive your plates at your mailing address two to four weeks prior to your registration’s month of expiration. It is important to remember that if you do not reserve your plate number, you will lose it.
Reserving your plate must be done prior to in person re-registrations.
You may reserve your current number when you renew your registration online, however, you will have to wait for the new plates, the updated registration, and new tags to arrive at your residence, which will likely take several weeks.
If you reserve your plate at the time of online renewal, you will not avoid the one-time $25 fee. No matter when you reserve you must pay this fee.
Residents who have an active vanity, low digit, and National Guard (PC Class Code) must reserve their plates if they would like to keep their current plate number.
You must bring in your reserved new pine tree plates to Town Hall to complete your registration. You will not be able to register without them.
Residents must come into Town Hall to re-register their vehicles on the month registrations are due and not earlier.
